Szirmai, Viktória (2020) Social polarization in the Hungarian and Eastern-Central European 'New Town' Regions. Impacts of Transition and Globalization. [Data Collection]
Abstract
A szakirodalmi előzmények áttekintése, statisztikai adatok gyűjtése és elemzése, tematikus térképek készítése, reprezentatív szociológiai adatfelvétel, helyi véleményformálókkal készített mélyinterjúk, valamint a KSH Kutatószoba adatai révén a kutatás résztvevői elsőként tárták fel és elemezték átfogó módon a választott magyarországi szocialista újvárosok és térségeik belső társadalmi szerkezetét, területi-társadalmi különbségeit. A megalapozó háttérelemzések és az empirikus vizsgálatok alapján esettanulmányok készültek: Tatabánya, Dunaújváros, Komló, Kazincbarcika, továbbá Tychy, Nová Dubnica és térségeik eseteiben. A kutatási eredményekből Szirmai Viktória szerkesztésében tanulmánykötet jelent meg “Artificial Towns” of the 21st Century: Social Polarisation in the New Town Regions of East-Central Europe” címmel. A kötet tartalmazza a problematika elméleti hátterét, a releváns magyar, lengyel és szlovák urbanizációs folyamatok bemutatását, a magyar, lengyel és szlovák esettanulmányokat, a magyar új és a régi, valamint a nagyvárosi térségek társadalmi polarizációs trendjeit, a hasonlóságokat és a különbségeket, továbbá a szocialista újvárosok városszerkezeti és építészeti sajátosságait.
Based on literature review, the collection and analysis of statistical data, the creation of thematic maps, a representative sociological survey, in-depth interviews conducted with local stakeholders, as well as on the data acquired from HCSO’s Research Room, the participants of the research were the first to explore and comprehensively analyse the inner social structure and the spatial-social disparities of the selected Hungarian socialist new towns and their regions. Based on the underlying studies and the empirical analyses, case studies were realised: Tatabánya, Dunaújváros, Komló, Kazincbarcika, along with Tychy, Nová Dubnica and their regions. The research results were published in a book edited by Szirmai, V., entitled “Artificial Towns” of the 21st Century: Social Polarisation in the New Town Regions of East-Central Europe”. The book features the theoretical background of the new town issue, the relevant Hungarian, Polish and Slovak urbanisation processes, the Hungarian, Polish and Slovak case studies, the Hungarian new and old, moreover, the metropolitan regions’ social polarisation trends, the similarities and differences, as well as the urban structure and the architectural specificities of socialist new towns.
