Abstract

In the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal, social media platforms have tightened their data access rules. The most prominent Western social media site, Facebook, has effectively closed channels that could previously be used for research data collection. This process, known in the literature as APIcalyptica, has necessitated the development of new data collection protocols. One of the most promising of these is data donation-based data collection. This method does not start data collection from the platform but from the user side. The researchers invite the users involved in the research to download their data from the social media site and share it for research purposes. The collection contains data from a pilot study of 150 people. Participants in the research completed a survey questionnaire and shared their Facebook data. The Facebook data includes an (anonymized) list of friends, the pages followed, the total reactions of the participant (likes, etc.), the interest categories calculated by Facebook, and detailed data on Facebook activities (e.g., posts, links shared, games played...). The file „FB-OTKA-databases” describing the databases is available to anyone. Access to other data is restricted at the donor's discretion: these require an email registration.
