Abstract

Ennek megfelelően jelen projekt fontos célja a Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) adaptálása, ezzel a nemzetközi kapcsolódás alapfeltételének megteremtése.

The research data stored in Hungarian social science data archives are not well integrated into the international research ecosystem, so their visibility outside Hungary is very low, despite the fact that Hungary is a full member of the Consortium of European Social Science Data Archives (CESSDA), the consortium that brings together European social science data archives. To address this issue, a project was launched in 2024 at the Research Documentation Centre of the Centre for Social Sciences. Its goal is to examine the work, infrastructure, and operations of two social science archives connected to the CESSDA ecosystem; to identify and adapt best practices; and subsequently connecting the KDK Repository to CESSDA and, later—if possible—to the systems of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), thereby increasing the visibility and accessibility of research data stored in the KDK. A prerequisite for integration into CESSDA and the EOSC is the adoption of appropriate international standards in the research data archives managed by the KDK. Accordingly, an important objective of this project is to adapt the Data Documentation Initiative (DDI), thereby establishing the fundamental conditions for international connectivity. The DDI is the most widely used international metadata standard for describing social science surveys, questionnaires, statistical data files, and study-level information; it is also the standard format for the information required by CESSDA systems. Since the KDK Repository’s EPrints software does not support the DDI standard, infrastructure development is necessary to meet CESSDA requirements. As a result of the project, research data stored in the KDK Repository will become accessible within the CESSDA ecosystem, thereby increasing the international visibility and accessibility of the KDK’s two data repositories, as well as—indirectly—the HUN-REN ARP Data Repository associated with the KDK, and enabling social science research data stored in Hungary to be featured on the international stage. The project was implemented under grant agreement NKFIH 2021-4.1.2-NEMZ_KI-2024-00048 issued by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office. The research collection includes presentations, abstracts, and other materials related to the project.
