Abstract

This research investigates the relationship between schoolchildren’s mental and physical health, their health literacy, and their health behaviors, focusing specifically on the mediating role of the school environment. Investigating how students' mental strain and health complaints interact with their health-related knowledge and behaviors remains an under-researched area both in Hungary and internationally. This research explores the specific mechanisms through which school-level factors—such as curriculum design, pedagogical approaches, and support from teachers and peers—shape students' understanding of health and subsequent lifestyle choices, ultimately impacting their overall well-being. The findings aim to offer actionable insights for students, educators, practitioners, and parents to advance preventive education and behavioral interventions. Furthermore, the outcomes are intended to inform policy and economic strategies for developing comprehensive school health initiatives that enhance public health outcomes in the long term.
